Chart of the Day: A deathly boost for pension funds

Trend of improving longevity in the UK reversed sharply in 2015 – potentially providing a boost for pension funds by reducing liabilities

The trend of improving longevity in the UK reversed sharply in 2015 – with a higher death rate potentially providing a boost for the country's pension funds by reducing liabilities.

Using figures from the Office for National Statistics, actuaries at Aon Hewitt found that in 2015, 32,000 more men and women died each week compared with the average for the years between 2005 and 2014.
