Andrea Orcel, one of the most high-profile dealmakers in Europe, is poised to be named as chief executive of Italian lender UniCredit.

Orcel, who has already emerged as a surprise frontrunner for the top job at UniCredit, could be named as the bank's new chief executive as early as this week, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
