When value investors like Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and Hugh Young of Aberdeen Asset Management underperform the indices over three years, you begin to wonder what’s up.

Whatever else is up, their stocks are not. Investors following a value strategy - buying into solid companies when their shares are - have suffered years of modest performance, and since the middle of 2014 the squeeze has been getting worse.
