Vanguard hires chief European economist

Large US asset manager appoints former Bank of England economist – who helped come up with the 'Five Tests' for UK entry into the eurozone

One of largest US asset managers has continued its push into Europe with the appointment of a former senior adviser at the Bank of England who helped come up with the main hurdles for staying out of the eurozone.

Vanguard has hired Peter Westaway as its chief European economist. Westaway was previously chief European economist at Nomura, whose resignation was announced in September.
