Watson pension benefits from high bond weighting

Sponsored fund avoids equities pitfalls

The pension fund sponsored by consulting firm Watson Wyatt is reaping advantages from a portfolio with high bond and low equity weightings.

The strategy, reported to be 80% bonds and 20% equities, which the firm says it has pursued for several years, has enabled it to avoid the kind of funding shortfalls which are blighting a range of pension funds, including Watson's own clients.
