Wells Fargo recruits funds sales quartet for Europe

US bank, whose funds arm is big in the US, wants to boost its profile in Europe

US bank Wells Fargo has added a quartet of funds salespeople, headed by ex-Janus marketer Sylvain Agar, to boost the profile of its asset management arm in continental Europe.

Wells Fargo Asset Management, which manages $438bn but is overwhelmingly focused on the US, has a European beachhead through its ownership of the former ECM Asset Management, a UK-based credit shop that was acquired by US bank Wachovia in 2007. Wachovia was in turn absorbed into Wells Fargo in a 2008 crisis-era consolidation deal.
