A decade ago, EY took aim at a new market in the UK. The accountancy firm launched a legal business, aiming to shake up the sector using its balance sheet firepower and technology know‑how.

Its three other rival Big Four firms — KPMG, Deloitte and PwC — followed suit, taking advantage of new rules to launch legal services units in the UK, too.
