Shares in UK-based private equity firm 3i’s listed buyout fund rose almost 8% in the shortened trading week up to New Year, as speculation mounted that the buyout firm would buy the fund at a discount to gain access to its cash.

Quoted Private Equity ended the year on 53.25p per share compared with 49.5p per share on Christmas Eve.
