‘A very unimaginative appointment’: The critics’ take on BoE governor Bailey

While City bigwigs have lined up to welcome the safety-first choice, not everyone is so pleased

Critics in the City have slammed Andrew Bailey’s appointment as the next Bank of England governor, raising questions about his track record as the chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority, the watchdog.

Sir Vince Cable, the former business secretary, told Financial News: “A very unimaginative appointment, someone who won’t ruffle feathers in government or the banking sector. We can all go to sleep until the next financial crisis.”
