ABI steps up warning on 'fat cat' pay

The Association of British Insurers has tightened its guidelines on windfall payments and bonuses after its number of warnings on executive pay increased in 2004.

The association, whose members control around 25% of the UK stock market, saw the number of "amber tops", which indicate breaches of corporate governance, rise to 30% from 22% a year ago. These were mainly due to pay issues.
