ABN shares up after rise in operating profits

Shares in ABN Amro rose 2.2% after the bank revealed a 5% increase in operating profit for the fourth quarter of 2001.

Although the result meant the bank's net profit fell 8% to €438m ($381m) over the quarter, and its operating profit was down 4% to €5bn for 2001 as a whole, analysts were cheered by the numbers.
