Activism-defence specialist leaving Goldman Sachs

William Anderson, a veteran adviser to companies fending off activists, is leaving Goldman Sachs to join Evercore Partners, according to people familiar with the matter.

Anderson, a 49-year-old partner at Goldman, is widely seen as one of the first bankers to focus on activism as a line of business. He used his perch heading up Goldman's defence and hostile-raid business since 2003 to grow the practice.
