A Hungarian professor of economics – who held the position of head of his country’s market watchdog for just over a year – has been awarded one of the most important regulatory roles in Europe.

Dr Adam Farkas, the ex-head of Hungary's capital markets regulator and former chief executive of Allianz Bank's operations in the country, has been appointed as the first executive director of the European Banking Authority.
