The takeover of Mannesmann by Vodafone AirTouch is poised to generate the largest advisory fee bill of all time - almost $1bn, reports the Financial Times.

In its offer document, Vodafone said it expected costs of £400m to arise from its bid and its recent venture with Bell Atlantic, the US telecoms group. The exact amount paid out to its advisers has yet to be worked out.
