Al Gore, the former US presidential candidate, has urged sovereign wealth funds to take a longer-term view of their investments, arguing that they had the potential to help resolve the world’s financial and environmental challenges.
Gore, co-founder and chairman of Generation Investment Management, a fund targeting sustainable assets, was speaking to an audience of delegates from over 35 SWFs in Paris. He argued that new mechanisms, including "loyalty shares", would need to be introduced to win over the support of long-term investors.
