Serge Tchuruk, chief executive of Alcatel, has said he is still open to the idea of a merger with the right candidate, despite the breakdown of talks with Lucent Technologies.
Tchuruk said: "There is still room for consolidation. Alcatel does not need to consolidate to grow - we are growing our market share - so we are not hunting for a partner, but we would look at an opportunity if it arises."
