Alcatel plans bond sale after loss and ratings downgrade

Alcatel, the French telecoms equipment manufacturer, has outlined plans for a possible bond sale, after declaring a loss for the second quarter and as its ratings come under fire.

Jean-Pierre Halbron, Alcatel's chief financial officer, said he was preparing a euro medium- and long-term note programme, to become effective as from September. Programmes such as this give companies quick and easy access to financing in the debt capital markets.
