Alliance Trust, one of the UK's largest generalist investment trusts, plans to launch a UK asset management business and is hiring senior staff to run it.

The latest hire is Edward Troughton, who joins as sales chief. Troughton was most recently at US fund manager BlackRock, where he led UK institutional sales. He left late last year and was succeeded by Mark Johnson.
