The appointment of Seth Bernstein as the new boss of AllianceBernstein came as a shock to many in the financial world, even though the executive has a long history at one of the US' largest banks, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Bernstein was previously a senior executive at JP Morgan. He had been at the bank for more than three decades, most recently serving as global head of managed solutions and strategy at its wealth management business.
