Allianz Dresdner Asset Management, the fund manager of German insurer Allianz, has dropped the Dresdner name to become Allianz Global Investors.

Joachim Faber, chief executive officer and member of the board of Allianz, said the name change reflected the "realisation stage" of Allianz's acquisitive strategy in recent years when it bought Dresdner Bank, US bond specialist Pimco and US equity outfit Nicholas Applegate.
