Shares in Allied Domecq, the UK drinks group, jumped more than 3% today after a consortium of investors confirmed it was considering a counter-bid for the company.

Constellation Brands, the US drinks group, has teamed up with Brown-Forman, a US rival and private equity firms Blackstone and Lion Capital, once known as Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Europe.
