European Capital, the newly established arm of American Capital, a US debt and equity investment group, has hired a Barclays private equity specialist to launch its UK mid-market buy-out unit.

The recruitment of Simon Henderson, a director of the UK bank's private equity division, is the latest step in the US-quoted company's push into Europe.
