Amvescap has confirmed that it is in talks to acquire UK fund manager Perpetual, following a report on the front page of the Wall Street Journal that it is seeking to agree a bid of £1.1bn.
Amvescap said in a statement: "This possible transaction, if consummated, would represent a further step in Amvescap's strategy to build a leading position in the world's big investment markets."
