The ring-fencing of the retail and investment banking operations of UK banks is nearly upon us, but the man behind the new rules says lenders are still not resilient enough to survive the next crisis.

Sir John Vickers, who spearheaded efforts to bring financial giants to heel in the aftermath of the last crisis, believes another blow-up could be imminent and the country’s banks are ill-equipped to survive the onslaught.
