Andrew Tyrie, scourge of the City elite, to stand down

The chair of the influential Treasury Select Committee will call it a day at the June general election

Andrew Tyrie, the leader of the UK's influential Treasury Select Committee who has earned a reputation as a fierce interrogator of the City's top financiers, will stand down after the general election in June.

Tyrie, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Chichester since 1997, announced his decision not to stand for re-election in a statement today.
