Andrew Tyrie to chair UK Competition and Markets Authority

Treasury Committee stalwart has been selected to take over from David Currie at the competition regulator

Andrew Tyrie to chair UK Competition and Markets Authority

Andrew Tyrie, the former head of the influential Treasury Committee who earned a reputation as a fierce interrogator of bankers, has been picked as the new chair of the UK's competition watchdog.

Greg Clark, the UK business secretary, announced the nomination of Tyrie as chairman of the Competition and Markets Authority in a statement on Wednesday. Clark said Tyrie was "ideally suited to leading the CMA at this critical time".
