Apax Partners, the private equity firm, is preparing a bid for TSL Education, according to an adviser close to the buy-out group. The academic publisher is part of Rupert Murdoch's News International.

The group confirmed last month that it was considering a sale. Analysts estimate the titles, which include The Times Educational Supplement and The Times Higher Education Supplement, could command up to £280m (€406m).
