Ashley buys Dunlop Slazenger from its banks

Mike Ashley, the sports retail entrepreneur, has bought Dunlop Slazenger, the UK sports equipment manufacturer previously owned by Cinven, the pan-European buy-out firm, from its banks for around £40m.

Ashley, who also owns Lillywhites, the up-market London sports shop and Sports Soccer, a sports clothing chain, could not be reached for comment. A source close to the deal confirmed he was the buyer.
