Mark Wilson is stepping down as chief executive of Aviva after almost six years running the £490bn insurance giant, which says the time is right for new leadership.

Aviva announced the move in a statement on Tuesday, saying that Wilson was leaving having successfully completed a turnaround in fortunes at the FTSE 100 group.
