AXA believes it has the chance to shape the future of insurance and asset management industry, after it was named as the sole insurer backing a new blockchain initiative.

The French insurer's fintech arm AXA Strategic Ventures was announced on February 3 among the backers of a $55 million fundraising by Montreal-based blockchain startup Blockstream, in what it believes is the largest investment by an insurer or asset manager in the emerging technology.
