Twenty-five investment management companies have commissioned Mercer, the consultancy, to carry out a ‘stocktake’ of staff in order to examine the diversity of their employees and correct any imbalances in hiring practices.

The results of the investigation will be published in September and will form the basis of efforts to address claims that asset management is an old boys’ club that promotes and protects the interests of white, middle-aged men.
