Banca Intesa, Italy's largest bank by assets, has said it is looking for a merger partner.

"If there are opportunities we will look at them, but opportunities are not there," Corrado Passera, chief executive of Banca Intesa, told analysts yesterday. He was speaking on a conference call after the bank posted quarterly earnings, Reuters reported.
