The Bank of England paid out more than £23m in bonuses to staff last year, as the City's regulators continue to come under fire over performance awards.

TheObserverreports that more than 4,260 of the Bank's staff received performance awards, and the £23.3m figure for 2021/22 is up from £22.1m the previous year.
