The Bank of England has cut interest rates to almost zero — its second reduction in little more than a week — as central banks delve ever deeper into their crisis toolkits to try to halt free-falling, coronavirus-hit markets.

In the bank’s first big step under new governor Andrew Bailey, who succeeded Mark Carney on Monday, rates have been cut from 0.25% to 0.1% — a record low.
