Bank of Italy seeks greater disclosure on conduits

The Bank of Italy is pressing domestic banks and insurance companies to increase their disclosure of investments held in off-balance sheet funding vehicles on growing concerns over potential losses in the country's financial sector as a result of the credit crisis.

Reuters reports that Claudio Clemente, the head of oversight for the central bank, said the move was to verify the balance sheet exposure of major banks and other financial institutions in the country.
