BNY Mellon fined £126m by FCA for control breaches

Custodian bank - one of the world's biggest - says it 'regrets that we did not meet standards'

BNY Mellon fined £126m by FCA for control breaches

The Bank of New York Mellon, one of the world's largest custody banks, has been handed a £126 million fine by the UK market regulator for breaches of the systems and controls standards it applies to safeguard client assets.

The Financial Conduct Authority said it had levied the fine because BNY Mellon had failed to properly adhere to its custody rulebook, rather than because any client money actually went missing.
