A banker charged with destroying documents by deleting WhatsApp messages from his phone was found not guilty, in a first-of-its-kind case that was billed as potentially breaking new ground for the supervision of financial-markets professionals.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority alleged that Konstantin Vishnyak, a former employee of VTB Capital in London, deleted the WhatsApp application on his phone after it became clear he was required to provide it to investigators.
