Bankers fear bonus sting from ECB lending

Bankers are shunning cheap money on offer over concerns it could be viewed by regulators as state aid

Some banks are shunning cheap three-year money from the European Central Bank because they fear it could be viewed by regulators as state aid and jeopardise bonuses.

European banks in receipt of public funds have previously been forbidden from paying dividends on stock and other interest payments.
