Banks forced to scrap analyst programmes as Covid-19 clouds graduate-job outlook

Lloyds Banking Group and Santander have contacted students to inform them they have cancelled or postponed their summer internships

At least two large banks have already cancelled their highly coveted summer analyst programmes because of the coronavirus pandemic. But graduates face a bigger problem: emerging into one of the worst City job markets since the 2008 financial crisis.

Banks including Lloyds Banking Group and Santander have contacted students in recent days to inform them that the coronavirus crisis has led them to cancel or postpone their summer internships, according to people affected by the moves.
