Barchester Healthcare, the UK private healthcare provider owned by horse-racing magnates John Magnier and JP McManus, has raised £170m (€247m) in a rights issue, in part to fund future acquisitions.

The rights issue was on the basis of one new share for every existing share and was fully subscribed, putting the firm in a strong position to bid for BetterCare, a chain of care homes.
