Barclays and Santander bosses call for restarting dividend payments

Regulators forced banks to stop paying dividends when the Covid-19 crisis hit

The bosses of Barclays and Santander have called for regulators to allow banks to restart dividend payments which were suspended when the Covid-19 crisis hit.

"Being able to distribute excess capital is very important if the broader economy is going to have confidence in its financial system," Barclays chief executive Jes Staley told the Institute of International Finance conference.
