Jes Staley, the chief executive of Barclays, has been fined £642,430 by UK financial regulators for his attempts to unmask a whistleblower in 2016.

The fine ends an investigation that began last year after it emerged the CEO had repeatedly tried to identify the author of a letter that raised concerns about one of Staley's former JPMorgan colleagues, who had been hired by the UK bank.
