Barclays Capital has hired Elliot Asarnow for the new position of global head of research. He will be a member of the investment bank's management committee reporting to chief executive Bob Diamond.

Asarnow will lead a team of more than 60 analysts, based in London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. He will be responsible for all Barclays' research products including indices, fixed income strategy, emerging markets, credit research, commodities and international economics.
