Barclays profit falls short, but backs targets

Barclays' 2018 profit fell slightly below analyst expectations as the bank set aside money due to uncertainty in the UK economy but backed its prospects of improving returns.

The British lender made a pre-tax profit of £3.49bn ($4.55bn) in 2018, down slightly from £3.54bn in 2017.
