Baring to shut two hedge funds

Baring Asset Management is planning to close two hedge funds after jittery equity markets made it hard for them to attract more assets from investors.

The 246-year old company, which first entered emerging markets two centuries ago by financing railway construction, is proposing to close down an emerging market long/short fund focused on Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Baring is also to close a long/short fund investing in Japanese equities.
