BayStar to jump-start European Pipes market

Schemes need to overcome poor image

BayStar Capital Management hopes Europeans will come to see private investments in public equity (Pipes) as more than a little-used and once-distrusted means of finance. The US firm has recently added an Italian office and hired Phil Cuneo from McKinseys to lead it.

Pipes are a type of private placement involving equity and debt. They allow listed companies to raise small amounts of capital without seeing their share price suffer from public scrutiny.
