The £6.4bn (€9.35bn) BBC pension fund has made its first allocation to hedge funds with the boutique investment house NewSmith Asset Management.

Peter Dunscombe, investment adviser at the BBC pension fund, said the scheme had placed a "small amount" with NewSmith but declined to say how much.
