The active UK equity fund at Barclays Global Investors (BGI) outperformed many active asset managers last year, despite its reputation as a passive investment house.

BGI's Ascent Life UK Advanced Active Fund outperformed its FTSE All Share benchmark by 2.3% in 2002.
