Biotechs need to consolidate, report says

Mergers and acquisitions are at least as important to the future of European biotechnology companies as technological developments, according to a report out on the European life sciences sector.

The report, by Ernst & Young, says that alliances, mergers and acquisitions were up 54% on 1999. However, Glenn Crocker, senior consultant and lead author of the report, says that there still needs to be much more consolidation.
