Beware of commentators declaring that things will never be the same again.  I suspect that many of the things they say will “change forever” after the pandemic will actually change very little.

But one recent event that really does have the makings of a watershed is the killing of George Floyd. There have been countless deaths of unarmed black people at the hands of US police over the years, deaths that campaigners hoped would finally lead to dramatic change. They didn’t.
